Beyond classrooms, building skills for life

The Creative Journey at DES

Holistic education is the only path to develop humanity — touching individual souls and bringing social change.

The management at Daffodils English School has strived wholeheartedly towards the impartation of holistic development of the students.

Various competitions catering to the child’s age, creativity, innovative ideas, artistic growth, public speaking, and confidence development were conducted throughout the year.

Extra-Curricular Activities (CCA)

At Daffodils, Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities form an integral part of holistic education. The CCA programme includes the House System, Club Activities, Inter-House Sports and Competitions, Inter-School Events, and Educational Field Trips and Excursions. Participation in these activities is compulsory, as they play a vital role in the overall development of every child. Merit certificates are awarded to winners in both sports and co-curricular events. All club activities are conducted by trained instructors to ensure expert guidance and skill development.

Newspaper in Education Programme

The school has collaborated with the Newspaper in Education initiative to enhance awareness and reading habits among students.

Meditation

A short three-minute meditation session is observed every day after lunch to calm the mind and improve concentration.

Annual Magazine – The Bloom

We welcome contributions from parents, teachers, and students for our annual magazine. Articles may be sent to thebloom@daffodils.education.

World Environment Day

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on the 5th of June across all grades at school. Students participate in various events associated with preserving the environment, which include setting up a green corner in the classroom, discussions about the 4Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover), circle time, and sustainability. The activities are designed in a way that ensures minimal or no use of paper and plastic.

The activities echo the theme of the year’s celebrations, and students also understand that a sustainable world is not a single-handed task but requires unified and persistent efforts.

International Day of Yoga

International Day of Yoga (IDY) is celebrated on the 21st of June every year at school. Students at DES, with energised spirits, perform various yoga asanas, variations of the versatile Surya Namaskar, pranayama, and meditation postures under the able guidance of the school’s yoga instructor.

The invigorating day sees the participation of teachers as well, whose involvement adds to the glory of the serene atmosphere. This day not only transforms the school’s atmosphere into a therapeutic environment but also enhances the overall sense of well-being among all who participate.

Debates at DES

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”

To help students develop critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills, inter-house debate competitions in Hindi, Kannada, and English are conducted for students from Grades 8, 9, and 10. The topics are interesting yet thought-provoking. The students come well prepared and speak with clarity in their thoughts and opinions. These debate sessions go a long way in shaping the confidence and personalities of the students. They build teamwork and public speaking skills, among other advantages.

Goonj – The Intramural Literary Fest

“Goonj”, the much-awaited intramural literary fest at Daffodils English School, is a celebration of the written and spoken word. Held annually in the month of July, the fest is designed to uncover and nurture the literary potential in every student, encouraging them to explore the worlds of storytelling, poetry, debate, and creative expression.

A wide array of competitions is conducted across various grades, including Storytelling with Puppets, Poetry Recitation, Spell Bee, Story Writing, Quiz, Science Talk, AI Champ, Handwriting Champ, and Poetry Writing.

Each event is thoughtfully designed to suit the age group and skill level of the participants and is held at appropriate venues within the school campus. Students participate in large numbers, showcasing their creativity, confidence, and command of language.

An atmosphere of originality and vibrant talent fills the school as participants express themselves through compelling narratives, powerful poems, and articulate presentations. Each competition is judged based on well-defined and relevant criteria, ensuring a fair and enriching experience for all. Winners are recognised with certificates, and the fest serves as a platform not only to celebrate individual brilliance but also to foster a collective love for literature and communication.

Field and Educational Trips

At Daffodils English School, we believe that education goes far beyond textbooks and classroom walls. Field trips form an integral part of our curriculum, offering students enriching opportunities to explore the real world and connect theoretical knowledge with practical experiences.

Our field trips are thoughtfully planned to align with the academic syllabus and promote experiential learning. From visits to science museums, botanical gardens, historical monuments, planetariums, and industries to nature trails, each trip is designed to ignite curiosity and foster a spirit of inquiry.

These educational journeys not only enhance subject understanding but also help develop essential life skills such as teamwork, observation, critical thinking, and social interaction. Students learn to appreciate cultural heritage, environmental conservation, and community life through first-hand exposure.

Accompanied by teachers and staff, students are guided throughout the experience, ensuring safety, supervision, and meaningful learning. Every trip is an opportunity to make memories, broaden perspectives, and build a deeper understanding of the world around them.

At DES, we encourage every child to explore, experience, and evolve — and field trips are one of the many ways we bring that vision to life.

Hindi and Sanskrit Diwas Celebrations

Knowledge of both languages of ancient Indian origin has been imparted to students at school as second languages since its inception. Hindi Diwas and Sanskrit Diwas are celebrated in the months of September and August respectively. Various colourful programmes that create awareness about the beauty and glory of the two languages are presented during the morning assembly at school.

Guidance and Counselling

At DES, we are committed to nurturing the emotional well-being and personal growth of every student. Our qualified, full-time school counsellor provides guidance and support to students across all grades—whether through casual conversations, deeper counselling sessions, or structured guidance programs. Through this journey of self-discovery, students are encouraged to understand their strengths, explore potential career paths, and develop emotional resilience. Parents are also welcome to connect with the counsellor for insights and support regarding their children’s overall well-being and development.

Home Science Club

Cooking and Baking
The aroma of freshly baked cakes and cookies often drifts from the doors of the Home Science Lab. This is where students are encouraged to develop their culinary skills and creativity. They enjoy experimenting in this spacious, well-lit area equipped with cooking ranges, ovens, and refrigerators.

Knitting, Crochet and Embroidery
Knitting and crochet are creative needlework skills that enable students to make clothes and decorative items, while developing patience, focus, and creativity. Embroidery further refines their attention to detail and artistic expression.

Gardening
Gardening allows students to grow plants and vegetables, fostering responsibility, care for nature, and an appreciation for fresh food.

Math Club

The Math Club of Daffodils English School is a vibrant platform for students who love exploring the beauty of numbers and logical thinking. The club aims to make mathematics fun, engaging and meaningful beyond the classroom. Members participate in problem-solving sessions, math quizzes, games, and puzzles that sharpen their reasoning skills. Through these activities, the Math Club helps students discover the real-life applications of mathematics while developing confidence, curiosity and a passion for learning. It truly proves that math is not just about numbers, it’s about thinking smart and having fun!
